Serves its purpose well
Like everyone else, I was looking for a rugged camera to take underwater/beach or on that ski trip where I would not worry about the camera. I did my research and like many have said it came down to the Panasonic and Canon and I chose the Panasonic because it was more portable and also because I currently love recording video of the family in HD using my sony camcorder that uses AVCHD which this Pansonic does too.I recently got to test this camera out on a family trip to the Maldives. Took this camera out snorkeling and to the pool over a half dozen times and had it rolling around in the sand with me and the kids. I took some pictures which came out good but my wife also brought along our Canon SD1000 whose pictures were extremely comparable. The pictures on the canon are probably actually slightly better in my opinion except that it can't take underwater pictures of the kids or the fish (unless I got a shell which I find too bulky to lug around). The true value was the video which was awesome. Now, it is not easy to record video underwater while snorkeling because glare off the screen was tough to get used to underwater, but once I adapted I have great footage of parrot fish, angel fish and even black tipped reef sharks that swim up to you. I have my son and wife pointing out at the coral and schools of fish swimming up to them. Truly once in a lifetime and this camera performed.Once we got back home from vacation, it snowed and with the kids, we went out for a good old snow ball fight which this camera recorded and even took a nice direct hit.So in summary, the pictures on this camera are OK and the video is great. The ruggedness and waterproof is what you want and this passes with flying color (even took a big licking on coral and came away with minor scratches). Also this was very portable and only slightly noticeably bigger than our Canon SD1000. It fit easily in my pocket and I took it everywhere. These are the reasons I bought it and it was definitely money well spend. (also the blue is a cool color to get too and stands out nice)

I've had it for 3+ years!
This is absolutely the best camera I have ever bought. It takes great pictures. It takes great video. The special effect presets are awesome and work with video, which few point and shoots do. It is as rugged as it is made out to be and then some. It survived a white water canoeing accident. It made it through dust storms in a high sierra desert (Burning Man). It bounced off a hard wood floor from a 10' drop. I can not be more happy with it.Be sure to get extra batteries. It is small, so the battery is too. I take a lot of pics and video in a day. The battery does not last as long as the 32GB card does, obviously. I got the silicon sleeve for it also and put it on immediately. I am sure that helped with the drops. If this ever dies, I will go for what ever is the next in line in the TS series. I hope when that day comes, the line is still around. I don't see needing replaced soon.

Great Camera. But no support from Panasonic or Amazon
I bought this back late 2010 and took it with me on a trip to Costa Rica. Had it in the pool, beach and even zip lining over the rain forest! Beautiful photos and videos.Like other have said. Water spots can be an issue. But that is true of any water proof camera. I use to have a Cannon in a water proof case. And I'd get water spots all the time.Less than a year later. It died. I emailed Panasonic a few times and never got a response back. I tried thru Amazon to see if they could help and never heard back from them either. Very upset that Amazon ignored my email to them about this. Especially given the fact that I pretty much buy everything from them.I gave it 3 stars due to Panasonic not caring. I don't think I'll buy anything from Panasonic again.

Great P&S camera, love it
We bought this P&S as a replacement for a Canon that was left in the rain over night. This camera doesn't have the zoom our old one did, but it works well. Great picture and video quality. We used it on a vacation to Dollywood and Splash Country in TN. Worked great, it was wonderful to carry a camera and NOT have to worry about it getting wet or banging it into a ride. We captured our day at the water park, took pics and video all day. Battery life is quite good as well and can easily get an entire day of shooting. All that was expected. I read other reviews, and choose this camera over the Olymus...because of the picture quality. What surprised me was how well it did on landscapes and especially things like sunsets. The AI mode does very well. Overall very satisfied, could be a brighter lens, could have longer zoom...but for what it is...a bullet proof, water tight, easy to use pocket camera, we really like it.
