Yes Minister - Series One [1980] [DVD]

Forty years old and still outstanding
This series demonstrates what can be done when a national institution in a democratic society dedicates itself to quality drama. It excoriates politicians, civil servants and the political system unmercilessly. Yet there is no sense in which the writers and producers are attempting to foist their own narrow political agenda on an audience which it largely holds in contempt. How refreshing.

The comedy observations are still relevant even today.
After all these years, this comedy is still just as funny and relevant as it was when it was first conceived back in the early 80's. A lot of the political games that are played are still playing out in our current parliament on a daily basis.Paul Eddington, Nigel Hawthorne, & Derek Fowlds are all sublime, the constant battle between Humphrey & Jim Hacker a joy to watch. Can't wait to download series two.

Funny and clever!
There is nothing to dislike in this series. Clearly there are some out- dated views and attitudes that reflect the era, but there is nothing disrespectful or vulgar.I love the dry wit and cynicism of the permanent secretary character, and his sly manipulation of the MP.Wonderful stuff!

Pure comedy gold, as relevant today as it was then.
Comedy gold. And terrifyingly still accurate depiction of the chaos in Parliament. Sir Humphrey would be proud how little has changed!

Masterpiece of comedy
This series was a triumph when first shown. It is brilliant and actually is so relevant for today's government bureaucracy. Priceless. Masterclass in acting from the main three characters.

Still wonderful
The beautifully written satire of Just Minister and Jusr Prime Minister does not feel dated at all - on the contrary, it is more relevant today than ever! As well as being wonderfully funny, it is a necessary re-education - we should all watch the whole lot every two years

Brilliant politically incorrect comedy
Totally valid summation of the Civil Service and Ministers 40 years ago and TODAY.Nothing has changed except the humour was so much better then.
