Great! Stop your confusing MP3 search here!
I spent quite a bit of time trawling through all sorts of different types of MP3 players, trying to find out what's best. In the end I decided to go for the name, figuring they must be doing something right to have such a large market share!! There are so many MP3's out there, it's easy to be overwhelmed. I really only wanted a basic MP3 to listen to my music (mostly "old-school" CD's).This does that and then some. It's really easy to transfer music files to it via the computer, is slim and lightweight and battery life is excellent.Music quality is great....I'm no great expert but I like what I hear! It has an automatic volume control, which means you can't have it too loud accidentally.I did purchase the silicone sleeve that was recommended by Amazon, and this is fine but it did need a little trim so I can access the "hold" button. (Works like a keylock on a mobile phone). In short, I'm very pleased with my MP3...The controls are easy to get the hang of, it holds absolutely LOADS of data and I do love that "hold" button.Yes, it is a little pricey and there are much cheaper MP3's out there. Previously, I purchased a cheap model (by another manufacturer) for my daughter and it broke after two weeks and the controls on that were extremely odd (very hard to explain but everything seemed counter-intuitive). Not so with the Sony! (Perhaps it's because I'm from the Nokia generation, but the controls on this seem very sensible to me!) The extra money seems well worth it for this little gem and I actually replaced the faulty MP3 with another, identical one of these for my daughter. We have had no problems with them in about a year of use and they're still going strong with almost daily use.

excellent sound, reliable
excellent sound, had this for five years and never had a problem. but when initial installing remember to set location to north America and NOT Europe, as otherwise you get remined that the volume is too high with a stupid beeping sound

Easy to use but some disappointments
The most annoying thing is that there's no instruction manual, despite what the documentation says. The so-called "Instruction Manual" is just a sheet of paper with the usual safety nonsense. There is a manual on the web though. The FM radio auto-scan function didn't work for me. In fact you can press & hold the up/down arrows and it will stop at the next station. I can't see that in the Manual, even on the web! There is no option to rename FM presets. If you create a new one, all subsequent presets are renumbered.I haven't tried the headphones, as I have purchased this as a present, but I wouldn't expect much. It sounds acceptable on decent headphones though.Very disappointing that you cannot add any extra memory, when this is possible on players a third of the price.

What has happened to Sony !
So disappointed , I have an older Walkman that is a beautiful piece of quality equipment , unfortunately it suddenly started playing up so I thought I'd treat myself to a new one , big mistake ! Alarm bells started ringing when it arrived in a tacky looking 'blister pack' and it didn't get any better upon opening ! I honestly thought I'd bought a fake copy item , it's like something out of a Christmas cracker , so light and cheap. After peeling off the 'kids toy style' printed screen protector the real screen isn't any better ! So blurry and pixelated ! No Bluetooth so won't connect to my Bose speaker and sound quality through the supplied ear phones is poor. My worst purchase in a long time , from Sony to Amazon to Me to the Dustbin !

Great longevity, brilliant sound
Best sound and volume , I’m slightly hearing impaired yet this mp3 player I can hear perfectly , I’m now on my 2nd the 1st lasted over 5yrs of playing 6 days a week ! The only reason I had to replace it was the earphone jack hole was getting worn and there was metal dust build up inside the screen from my work environment

Doesn’t jump channels if you have it in pocket.
Good basic model and easy to operate. Doesn’t jump function when in pocket ie in gym like similar devices.
