Other patterns are for flat decorations, like the knitted butterflies, the crocheted strawberry leaf, or the crocheted dragonfly.The patterns are grouped into themes: Spring Things, Hedgerow Flowers, Leaf Fall, Bugs and Beasties, Butterflies, Rock Pool, Vegetable Basket, Woodland Walk, and Midwinter. Probably I'll never want to make a stuffed slug, housefly, or mushroom, but the ladybug is cute, and the patterns for shells, acorns, Easter eggs, fruits, and vegetables will come in handy for holiday or seasonal decoration projects. The flat "specimen butterflies" (peacock, large blue, fritillary) are delightful.All of the patterns have written-out instructions, and the crocheted patterns also have charts. There is some very basic how-to-knit and how-to-crochet material at the beginning of the book, but this is a pattern book, not a technical manual. Most of the patterns look like they would be fairly easy to knit or crochet--a notable exception is the charming three-dimensional Blue Tit. I give this book 5 stars, because of the clear instructions, the full-color close-up photos, and the sheer variety of interesting "things" included in the patterns.If what you're looking for is patterns for knitted and crocheted pieces that can be used either individually (as appliques) or joined together into larger projects, then you might be interested in another newly-published pattern collection: 150 Knit and Crochet Motifs: Anything-but-Square Shapes for Garments, Accessories, Afghans, and Throws.

As an experienced crochet artist I have to disagree with a previous review stating some of the crochet patterns are in UK terms and not US terms as stated in the listing and the book itself. I have checked every single crochet pattern in the book and ALL are in US terms and match the charts as well. However all chart symbols are universal so even if there was an error all you need to do is look at the chart and see if it’s a dc or sc. There are so many fantastic crochet patterns in the book if you love nature. Flat applique to 3D patterns although no birds in the crochet section. Birds are knitting patterns. I bought my book in the used option from the Goodwill.

I love this book! Easy instructions and super adorable patterns! I haven't found any pattern mistakes yet as I work through the book. I use # 3 crochet thread for the crochet work and cascade 20/20 for the knit. Nice and thin to be able to see all the details of these super cute patterns! They are easy to combine to embellish with and easy to adapt if you need to change it up a bit. I am a long time crocheter and newly knitting. Some of the patterns are complicated but they read smoothly, if you don't lose your place! This book along with the crochet bouquet book have such unique patterns I haven't seen anywhere else, in English anyway. I have been quickly working up pattern after pattern. They don't use a lot of thread and I've even used embroidery thread with a #2 hook. The little critters add such a cute embellishment to any project! What a gem of a book! Full applause to the author!

An exciting addition to my knitting pattern collection. The patterns are clear and simple. There are many projects included. After completing several I found they inspired me to use these knit flora and fauna in many differnt ways. Being small items they work up quickly;not something often found in knitting projects. They proved to be great for using up yarn left over from other projects.I was surprised that the crochet patterns were charted ( the knit ones were not). I seldom crochet so this will be a challenge for me. The projects are appealing so I will be learning something new this Summer, but if you primarily crochet and do not feel comfortable without a written out pattern this book is not the one you want.

I don't normally knit small fussy patterns, but these are a wonderful collection of small motifs that's are perfect for extra decoration to garments and my Yule tree. The vines, leaves, shells, and flowers are lovely and work up pretty quickly.

For that purpose, these patterns are excellent. I am very pleased. I have some plain white masks, which are very boring. I love to crochet, and certainly have the time during the quarantine. So, this book is perfect for that purpose. It also shows using the small flowers and creatures to decorate clothes and other items. This book is well worth the price.

This was a gift for a friend and she really likes it. The book as many pictures of the projects and good instructions too.

ein wunderschönes Buch nicht nur zum Anschauen. Es gibt sehr viele Anregungen, die Lust darauf machen, selbst kreativ zu werden. Entweder die vorgestellten Motive nachzuarbeiten oder eigene Kreationen zu entwerfen. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist, daß man Wollreste wunderbar verwerten kann. Vorteilhaft ist es wenn man schon einige Handarbeitserfahrungen hinter sich hat und sich nicht erst einlesen und erproben muss.Als Anfänger- und Einsteigerbuch ist es deshalb aus meiner Sicht nicht so geeignet.Ich empfehle das Buch auf jeden Fall weiter und freue mich auf neue kreative Ideen der Autorin.

I love it. I also have a couple other of Lesley Stanfields similar type books and the projects are unique and fun. I still can't quite figure out the pattern charts with the symbols but the written patterns are also included thank goodness. Lots of neat projects.
